Thomas Griffith (ca. 1805 - ?)

Thomas Griffith was born about 1805 in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the only child of Alice Griffith. He was born out of wedlock and took his mother's surname. His mother never married, and his natural father's name is unknown.

Thomas was raised on his grandfather John Griffth's farm in St. Clair Township.  He grew up with his cousin Jesse Griffith, who was also an only child, and illigitimate. Jesse's mother was his aunt, Susannah Griffit, and Thomas was two years older than Jesse. His mother and his aunt were both in their early 30s when they had Thomas and Jesse.
