John Edwin McMullen (1838 - 1897)
Arthur Augustine McMullen was born on August 10, 1838 in Allegheny Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Susan (McDermitt) McMullen. He was baptized on September 16th at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Loretto, Allegheny Township. His sponsors were his uncle and namesake John Edwin McDermitt and his aunt Mary McMullen.
John Edwin grew up on a farm in Clearfield Township, the oldest of eleven children.
On November 1, 1859 John married Mary Elizabeth Ryan at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Carrolltown. Witnesses to their marriage were Stephan A. Durban and Anna McMullen. Mary was born about 1841.
On November 22, 1860 Mary gave birth to their only child: Francis Alexander "Frank" McMullen.
On February 27, 1862 Mary died at their home. She is buried at St. Augustine Cemetery in St. Augustine, Clearfield Township.
One year later, John Edwin remarried. On July 21, 1863 he married 17-year-old Charlotte Delozier at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
John and Charlotte were the parents of eight children: Mary Angeline (McMullen) Conrad-McCoy, Agnes Ellen (McMullen), James Andrew McMullen, Evaline (McMullen) Flasher-Mullen, Albert McMullen, Rosanna (McMullen), Maud (McMullen), and Joseph Columbus "Col" McMullen.
In 1870 John and his family resided on a farm in Allegheny Township, and in 1880 they resided in Reade Township.
On December 23, 1897 John died. He was 59.
Edwin's son Col married Catherine Christina "Kate" Kuntzman in 1906. They eventually removed to California. Kate died in 1947 and Col in 1957. The fates of John's other children are unknown.
