Joseph James McMullen (1858 - 1936)
Joseph James McMullen was born on March 5, 1858 in Clearfield Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Susan (McDermitt) McMullen. On March 12th he was baptized "Joseph Jacob" at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Augustine, Clearfield Township. His baptism sponsors were Celestine and Lydia McMullen.
Joseph grew up on a farm in Clearfield Township, the tenth of eleven children.
About 1884 Joseph married Anna Eva Burgoon. Annie was born on January 31, 1867 in Clearfield Township, the daughter of William M. and Julia Anna (Adams) Burgoon. Joseph's sister Susan was married to Anna's brother John. Anna was 17 at the time of their marriage, and Joseph was 26.
Joseph and Anna were the parents of eleven children. They were: Robert A. McMullen, Mary E. McMullen, Mary Agnes (McMullen) Sheehan, John McMullen, Bennett McMullen, Francis "Frank" McMullen, Walter A. McMullen, Grace McMullen, Edward McMullen, Evelyn J. (McMullen) Dietrich, and Leonard McMullen.
Robert A. and Mary E. both died in adolescence sometime before 1910.
Joseph and Ann raised their children on their farm near Patton in Clearfield Township.
Joseph died in February 1936 at the age of 77.
Anna died on March 11, 1946 in Clearfield Township at the age of 79.
Joseph and Anna are buried at St. Augustine Cemetery in St. Augustine.
