Jeremiah "Jerry" Barnes (1841 - 1902)
Jeremiah Barnes was born about July 15, 1841 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, the son of Tobias and Elizabeth (Custer) Barnes.
Jerry grew up on a farm in Paint Township, Somerset County, the second of six children.
On November 14, 1864 Jerry married Amanda Jane Allenbaugh in Wilmore, Summerhill Township, Cambria County. Amanda was born on April 4, 1847 in Summerhill Township, the oldest child of Henry and Elizabeth Allenbaugh.
Jerry and Amanda were the parents of eight children: Mary E. Barnes, William H. Barnes, Emma M. Barnes, Samuel T. Barnes, Margarette Barnes, Annie Matilda Barnes, Estella Barnes, and Elmer Elsworth "Jerry" Barnes.
They raised their children on their farm in Summerhill Township. They resided next to her parents.
Jerry died in 1902, presumably in McKeesport, Allegheny County at about the age of 60.
Amanda outlived Jerry by about 36 years. She is said to have died in 1938 in Wilmerding, Allegheny County, at the very advanced age of 90. This biography does not have any records to confirm are deny these reports.
