Emma S. (Griffith) Conrad (1876 - 1928)
Emma S. Griffith was born on November 23, 1876 in Ryot (Oak Shade), St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Richard Sylvester and Rachel (Corle) Griffith.
Emma was the oldest of seven children. Her sister Jesse died in infancy in January 1888.
Emma grew up in Ryot where her father was the local blacksmith.
On August 30, 1904 Emma married Charles Edward Conrad in Portage Cambria County. Charles was born on March 5, 1882 in Pennsylvania, the son of Edward and Fyetta A. (Gass) Conrad. Charles was four years Emma's junior and worked for the Pennsylvania railroad. Presumably, they met through her brother-in-law Keith Adams, who also worked for the railroad in Portage.
Emma and Charles were the parents of four children: Rilla (Conrad) Jones, Edith (Conrad (Stark), Edward R. Conrad, and Charles Conrad.
Emma and Charles raised their children in Portage.
Their daughter Rilla married Webster Jones, and their daughter Edith married Henry J. Stark.
On March 31, 1926, Emma died at their home from breast cancer. She was 49. She is buried in Prospect Cemetery, Portage.
Sometime after Emma's death, Charles moved to Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.
Charles outlived Emma by more than 50 years. He died in March 1982, presumably in Youngstown.
The fates of their children are unknown.
