Agnes A. (Brandt) Lauer (1879 - 1948)
Agnes A. Brandt was born on February 2, 1879 in Clearfield Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Augustine John and Philomena (Martin) Brand. She was baptized on April 20th at St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Augustine where her father was a founding member; her godparents were William Sawyer and Margaret McCance.
Agnes was the youngest of eleven children born to her parents, four of whom died young. Her father was 25 years older than her mother, who was his second wife. Agnes also had five older half-siblings. Her half-brother William was 40 years old at her birth. As one might imagine, she had many nieces and nephews who were older than she.
Agnes lived at home with her parents near Patton, Clearfield Township, where she was a school teacher.
About 1907 Agnes gave birth to a boy named Bruce Walker. Around 1914 she had a daughter named Sylvia. It is not known who their father was. Bruce later took his step father, Victor Lauer's last name.
On November 14, 1916 Agnes married Victor M. Lauer in Patton, Clearfield Township. Victor was born about 1866 in Germany, and immigrated to the U.S. when he was a little child. Victor was recently widowed. His first wife's name had been Ida Ellan McConnell, and it is thought that they had adopted a son named James.
It is not known what kind of marriage they had. Although Bruce took Victor's last name, It is thought that Agnes and Victor separated. He was living alone in Patton when he died on May 20, 1927 at the age of 61.
Agnes died on August 8, 1948 in Patton. She was 69. She is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Patton.
Agnes's childen Bruce and Sylvia both resided in Michigan at the time of their mother's death. Their fates are unknown.
