Jacob Corle Jr. (1807 - ca. 1879)

Jacob Corle Jr. was born on January 21, 1807 most likely in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvanina, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Bowser) Corle Sr. Jacob grew up on a farm, the oldest of  seven children. His parents were among the earliest settlers of the newly formed Union Township, where he grew up.

About 1826 Jacob married Catherine Mock in Bedford County. Catherine was born about September 17, 1803 in Bedford County, the daughter of David and Elizabeth Mock.

Jacob and Catherine were the parents of four children: Francis B. Corle, Enos Corle, Elizabeth (Corle) Feather, and Anthony Corle.

Elizabeth gave birth to their three oldest children in successive years: 1827-1829. Their youngest, Anthony, was born thirteen years later.

In 1859 a terrible misfortune visit the Corle family, and its name is Scarlet Fever. From August through October, twelve of their grandchildren, succumbed to the illness. Francis, Enos, and Eliza lost four children each, ranging in ages from a few months to nine.

During the Civil War, two of their sons, Francis and Anthony, enlisted with the Pennsylvania volunteers, Anthony was Company A 84th Regiment, and Francis with Company G 91st Regiment. (It is not know whether Enos also enlisted.) Tragically, Anthony died on June 9, 1862 in Fort Republic, Virginia. He was not yet twenty. Francis died on September 27, 1864 at Hatcher's Run, Virginia.

Jacob died on May 11, 1879, presumably at their farm in Pavia, Union Township. He was 72.

After Jacob's death, Catherine resided with her daughter and son in law Eliza and John Feather in Pavia. Catherine died on May 19, 1883 at the age of 79.

Jacob and Catherine are buried in Pavia Cemetery, Pavia, Union Township, Bedford County, PA.
