Henry Corle (1813 - 1892)
Henry Corle was born on October 24, 1813 in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvanina, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Bowser) Corle Sr. Abraham grew up on a farm, the fourth of seven children. His parents were among the earliest settlers of the newly formed Union Township, where he grew up.
Henry was a farmer.
About 1837 Henry married Mary "Polly" Beard. Polly was born on August 7, 1818 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob and (Garn) Beard.
Henry and Polly were the parents of eight children: Alexander Eli Corle, Rachel Corle, Abraham "Abram" Corle, James Corle, Hannah Corle, Lucinda (Corle) Feather, Francis Bruce "Franklin" Corle, and Amanda Corle.
Henry and Polly raised their children on a farm neighboring Polly's parents' farm iin Union Township.
Henry's three eldest, Alexander, Abraham, and James proudly served their country during the Civil War, but tragically Abram (on May 10, 1864) and James (on April 2, 1865) died during the war, Abram. Henry lost four nephews in the war as well. Henry later obtained a pension from the government on behalf of his deceased sons and his nephew Anthony Corle, whose parents were by then deceased.
Polly died at their home on August 11, 1868. She was 50.
On August 11, 1874 Lucinda died at the age of 22. She had been recently married to William Feather.
In 1880 Henry resided in Union Township with his two youngest children, Frank and Amanda.
Henry died on April 19, 1892. He was 78.
