William Grant Meck (1873 - 1942) Ann Meck was born in 1874 in Ryot (Oak Shade), St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of George Washington and Joanna (Barnes) Adams.
When Ann was little, her family moved a few miles away to Portage, Cambria County. She had been living near her paternal grandparents Solomon and Ann Adams in Ryot, and in Portage she lived near her maternal grandparents Tobias and Elizabeth Barnes.
Ann was only 14 when her mother died in 1888 at the age of 42. Her sister Clara assumed the responsibility of raising their 6-year-old brother Ervin. She married the following year, and Ervin went to live with their sister and brother-in-law Solomon Meck in Broad Top Township.

Ann and William had the following children: Dewey Meck (died in infancy), Harry M. Meck, and Bertha M. (Meck) Swartz.
Young Dewey Meck was thought to have died in infancy in 1892.
Tragically, Ann died after giving birth to Bertha in December 1895. She was just 21 years old. She is buried in Duvall Cemetery (Foor Cemetery), Six Mile Run, Broad Top Township.
Her sister Clara raised Bertha as her own. She also helped raised Harry, who lived off and on with his father William and step mother.
