Clarence M. Gordon (1872 - 1940) Clarence M. Gordon was born in October 1872 in Ryot (Oak Shade or Six Roads), West St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of Lorenzo Madden and Margaret (Adams) Gordon. Clarence was the second of eleven children.
Clarence grew up on a farm near his grandparents and many cousins and family members. In 1881 his grandfather Jeremiah Gordon died, and in the mid 1880s the Gordons moved to Johnstown, Cambria County.
Sadly, on February 1, 1893 Clarence's baby brother Daniel died at the age of 3.
In 1896 Clarence moved with his parents and most of his siblings to Streetsboro, Portage County, Ohio. He helped his father manage a farm. On May 30, 1897 he married Laura A. Wilcox in Portage County. She was born on July 31, 1875 in Portage County, the daughter of Charles Edward and ida (Packer) Wilcox. Clarence and Laura made their home in Streetsboro.
Sometime before 1920 Clarence and Laura moved to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where he found employment as a manager at a creamery.
Sometime in the 1920s Clarence and Laura adopted agirl named Genevieve, who was born about 1916. In 1930 Clarence was employed as a civil engineer in or near Cleveland. Clarence died on November 12, 1940 in Cleveland. He was 68. Laura eventually went to live with Genevieve at her home in Titusville, Crawford County, PA. Genevieve was married to Vernon Whitney and had two children, Loralyn Ann and Gordon. Clarence and Laura are buried in Twinsburg, Summit County, Ohio.
