Robert Adams (1794 - 1873)
Ann Sleek (1792 - 1860)
Robert Adams was born about January 24, 1794 in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert Adams, a pioneer white settler of Bedford County. His mother's name is not known, but it is thought to be Mary.
Robert was the youngest of ten children. He grew up on his father's farm in St. Clair Township. Not only was his father also named Robert, but his grandfather was too.
On June 27, 1815 Robert married Ann Sleek in Bedford County. The ceremony was performed by Peter Schell, Esq.
Ann was born about May 20, 1792 in Maryland, the daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Anders or Andrews) Sleek.
It is thought that Robert and Ann were the parents of 7 sons and 1 daughter. Their daughter's name is unknown, but it is believe that their sons were named Uriah Adams, Andrew Adams, Josiah Adams, John Adams, Jacob Adams, Samuel Adams, and William Adams.
Robert and Ann raised their family on a farm in Napier Township, Bedford County. Sometime in the 1850s their hometown became Juniata Township, which was formed from part of Napier Township.
On July 10, 1838 their son William died at the age of 1.
On March 11, 1853 their son Jacob died at the age of 22.
Their son Andrew later owned and operated an Inn in Monroe Township, Bedford County.
On June 18, 1860 Ann died at their home. She was 68.
Robert died on March 9, 1873 at the age of 79.
Robert and Ann are buried in Fishertown Cemetery, Fishertown, Bedford County.
