Solomon Adams (1791 - 1865)

Catherine Hiner (1791 -1863)

Solomon Adams was born about September 16, 1791 in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert Adams, a pioneer white settler of Bedford County. His mother's name is not known, but it is thought to be Mary.

Solomon was one of the younger of ten children. He grew up on his father's farm in St. Clair Township.

(Disclaimer: A descendant of Solomon and Catherine (Hiner) Adams believes that Solomon was not the son of Robert but rather the son of Robert's brother, Captain Solomon Adams. She bases her conclusion on some records that name a Solomon Adams and a Solomon Adams Jr. of Napier Township, Bedford County. While Robert had a son named Solomon, no evidence exists to confirm that Solomon indeed had a son named Solomon.)

About 1813 Solomon married Catherine Hiner. She was born on September 15, 1791 in Frederick County, Maryland.

Solomon and Catherine had the following nine children: Eve Adams, Mary (Adams) Clinesmith, Elizabeth (Adams) Ziegler, Andrew Adams, Martin Adams, Daniel Adams, Solomon Hiner Adams, Margaret (Adams) Clinesmith, and Catherine Adams.

In 1820 Solomon and Catherine resided on a farm in Napier Township, Bedford County with three young daughters and baby son.

In the 1830s Solomon and Catherine removed to Bloominggrove Township, Richland County, Ohio, where they continued to farm.

On Christmas Day 1863 Catherine died in Rome, Bloominggrove Township at the age of 72. Her death ended a marriage of 50 years.

On July 8, 1858 their youngest child, Catherine, died at the young age of 23. She was unmarried.

Their oldest daughter Eve never married, and she lived with them until their deaths.

On December 18, 1865 Solomon died in Bloominggrove Township. He was 74.

Solomon and Ann are buried in Rome East Cemetery (also known as Evangelical German Reformed Cemetery), Rome, Bloominggrove Township, Richland County, Ohio.
