Thomas Adams was born about 1775 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert Adams, a pioneer white settler of Bedford County. His mother's name is not known, but it is thought to be Mary.

Thomas was one of ten children, and he grew up on his father's farm in St. Clair Township.

Thomas married Lydia Dressell in Bedford County. She was born about 1789 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Edward and Hannah Dressell. Thomas and Lydia were Quakers.

Thomas and Lydia had the following children: Hannah (Adams) Blackledge, John T. Adams, Elizabeth Adams, Margaret Adams, Nathan P. Adams, Edward G. Adams, Ira L. Adams, and Mary (Adams) Kinsey.

Thomas and Lydia moved to Ohio around 1818. By 1830 they resided in Malaga Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

On June 4, 1856 Lydia died at their home from consumption. She was about 66.

On March 23, 1864 Thomas died in Malaga Township. He was 89.

Thomas and Lydia are buried in Sunsbury Quaker Cemetery, Monroe County, Ohio.
