Joseph Adams (ca. 1788 - ?)

Joseph Adams was born about 1788 in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert Adams, a pioneer white settler of Bedford County. His mother's name is not known, but it is thought to be Mary.

Joseph was one of ten children. He grew up on his father's farm in St. Clair Township.

In 1810 Joseph resided in St. Clair Township with his young wife, whose name is unknown, and their baby son. In 1820 they had four young sons.

In 1830 Joseph and his wife resided in Shade Twp, Somerset County, PA with three boys and three girls. On the US Census were listed, in addition to Joseph: one male 10-15; two males 15-20; one female 0-5; two females 5-10; and one female 30-40. We can presume that one of their sons died young.

It is not known where they resided at the time of the 1840 US Census.

In 1850 Joseph resided in St. Clair Township with what is presumed to be his second wife, Elizabeth "Betsey" Morris. She was about 25 years his junior. She was born about 1814 in PA.

Joseph and Elizabeth had the following four children: Mary Jane Adams, Charles J. Adams (died young), John Q. Adams, and Elizabeth Adams. One of their daughters married S. A. Amick.

Joseph died sometime between 1860 and 1870. Betsy was living alone in 1870. She died sometime between 1870 and 1880.

It is not known where they are buried....
