Catherine Matilda (Conrad) McMullen (1842 - 1880)

Catherine Matilda Conrad was born on October 2, 1842 in Allegheny Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania the daughter of John George and Mary Ellen (Small) Conrad. Catherine was the youngest of six children.

Catherine's father was a shoemaker and a farmer. She grew up near Loretto in Allegheny Township. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Loretto.

On October 15, 1865 Catherine married Chaarles Vincent McMullen at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, St. Augustine, Cambria County. Charles Vincent was born on July 23, 1846 in Cambria County, the son of Hugh James and Mary Catherine (Riffel) McMullen. Charles was a coal miner.

Catherine and Charles were the parents of eight children: Mary Levina (McMullen) Kelly, George McMullen, Henrietta Helen McMullen, Merina Catherine "Minnie" (McMullen) Montgomery, Agnes Laura McMullen, Anthony Demetrius J. McMullen, Hayden A. McMullen, and Patrick McMullen.

Catherine died on September 7, 1880 at their home near Ashville, Clearfield Township, shortly after giving birth to their youngest son Patrick. She was just 37.

Charles remarried on February 16, 1886 to Mary Jane Donahue. He was residing at Bakers Mines in Blair County, where he was still a coal miner.

Charles and Mary Jane had five children together, giving Charles fourteen children in all. Charles died on April 13, 1905. His widow remarried to a man named Charles Hauge. He is buried in St. Thomas Cemetery, Asville.
