Isaac Henry "Harry" Conrad (1853 - 1932)

Isaac Henry Conrad was born on July 19, 1853 near Wilmore in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, the son of Henry and Mary “Polly” (Settlemyer) Conrad. He was baptized on August 28, 1853 at St. Bartholomews’s Catholic Church in Wilmore; his godparents were Jacob and Catherine Burke.
Isaac Henry was known as "Harry."
Harry grew up on a farm, the third of eleven children.
Harry's father fought in the Civil War from 1864-5. Soon after he returned from the War, the Conrad family relocated near Ashville in Clearfield Township, where his father operated a sawmill by Conrad's Dam.
On February 3, 1877 Harry married Mary G. Sutton at St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Augustine, Clearfield Township. Mary was born on September 29, 1852, the dauther of David and Mary Agnes (Stevens) Sutton.
Harry and Mary had nine children, three of whom died in childhood or infancy. Their children were: Clara Mary Conrad, David Henry Conrad, Marcellus A. "Marcy" Conrad, Malinda Agnes "Linnie" Conrad, Martin Leonard Conrad, infant Conrad, Vincent Augustine Conrad, Blanche (Conrad) Gill, and Bernard J. Conrad.

When Linnie was a young girl, she injured her right leg in a sledding accident. The injury never properly healed, and after years of swelling and discomfort, she had her leg amputated at the age of 19. Her disability considerably reduced her opportunities for courtship, and she never married. She remained at home where she worked as a seamstress and likely cared for her parents in their old age.
Marcy, Martin, and Bernard all settled in Ohio. Bernard married and fathered four children.
David and Blanche married and raised families in Cambria County.
David's wife died at the age of 48. They were the parents of eleven children, with the three youngest still minors. David took her death hard and became an alcoholic. He lost the family farm. a Blanche married Albert Gill. They raised three children in Hastings, Cambria County.
On January 8, 1923 Mary died at their home near Ashville in Clearfield Township. She was 70, and her death ended 46 years of marriage.
Harry died on August 11, 1932 at home at the age of 79.
Harry and Mary are buried in St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville.
